Code of Conduct
Our workshop centres collective respect for all beings, both human and non-human, who we may encounter on our walkshop.
Respect for Participants
One of the primary goals of this workshop is to foster an inclusive space for collaboration, creativity, and innovation. All skill levels and backgrounds are welcome.
-
Respect your limits: If you feel unwell or not ready to move across the towpath, don’t push yourself.
- Respect each other’s limits:
- We will not pressure people to move faster. Every person has their own rhythm. Make sure to attune to yours;
- We will not put anyone on the spot to speak, act, or perform — people participate in different ways. Unless they actively decide to do so, we will not push anyone to contribute in any particular way.
-
We will walk mostly in groups. Please communicate with an organiser before straying from the group. There will be moments to freely explore and engage with the space in the second half of the workshop.
-
Please reach out immediately to one of the workshop organisers in person or via email if you experience something that doesn’t feel right.
- We ask that all participants familiarise themselves with the NIME Conference Code of Conduct and follow it in all communications, in person and online.
Respect for the Space
The River
- The workshop is about decentring and equalising the hierarchy between humans and
non-humans; this means fostering a relationship of respect toward water bodies:
- We will not throw food or any kind of waste into the river;
- We will not disturb non-human animals in the ecosystem. You might find birds nesting or with young chicks. Although they are city-dwellers themselves and may be used to humans, We will give them plenty of space and do not operate equipment close to them. We will not feed them. Even though we may want to help, we will not remove garbage from their nests.
-
There are a few bins at the park where we will gather for lunch. We will keep all rubbish to dispose of there or back at the University. We recommend you bring a reusable tote bag to carry your belongings and keep any trash until we are back at the University.
- We will respect growth. We will not remove or pick plants, flowers, or any other vegetation on our walk.
On the River
-
We must be aware of other towpath users who co-exist along the canal: as a commute route, the towpath can get busy with people walking, pushing buggies, and cycling. Where possible, walk no more than two abreast, keeping to the left. When stopping, move to the side so the path stays clear.
-
We will not film identifiable members of the public without their consent.
